Note Reading Practice
Learn to read music notes with a free trainer that suits your instrument. Pick an instrument, a clef and a level; every note is played aloud, and the app brings back the notes you find tricky.
How it works
- Choose your instrument, clef, key and level.
- Look at the note on the stave and hear it played.
- Answer by note name, keyboard, colour bars, fingering, fretboard or by playing into your microphone.
- Improve. The app keeps score, awards stars and brings back the notes you miss.
Practise on your instrument
Every instrument reads a little differently: guitars sound an octave lower than written, clarinets and trumpets sound a tone lower, and violas read alto clef. Each instrument page explains the details and opens the trainer with the right settings.
Treble, bass and alto clef
Start with the treble clef notes for piano right hand, violin, flute and recorder, or the bass clef notes for piano left hand, cello and bass. Viola players can learn the alto clef. Add key signatures when you are ready.
For teachers and parents
There are no logins and nothing to install. Progress stays on the child's own device, and the microphone is never recorded. Set an exercise once and share the link with the class. For ideas, read teaching note reading in the classroom.
